Arsène MPIANA

Born in Kinshasa on June 14, 1992, Arsène MPIANA is a photojournalist, artist, and educator. As a photojournalist, he is a freelancer for Thomson Reuters and Jeune Afrique. From November 2019 to June 2024, for nearly five years, he was a correspondent photographer for Agence France-Presse. He is currently a consultant for MONUSCO. As an educator, he is currently head of the photography department at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa. In addition to teaching at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, he is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Information and Communication Sciences, Unisic, formerly Ifasic.

One of the collaborations that has marked his young career is his work with world-renowned photographer Mario Testino on his production “My Beautiful World” in 2023 in Kinshasa, DRC. His exhibitions include “Le parcours de l'eau” (The Water Journey), his first solo exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa in 2024, “Katanga Crush” at the Cultural Center in Liège, Belgium, and “Les Chiroux” in 2023. In 2022, he participated in the Yango 2 Biennale at the Halle de l'étoile in “IN” at the Lubumbashi Biennale. He was subsequently selected for the 13th edition of the Bamako Photography Encounters as one of the representatives of the DRC. Another exhibition to his credit took place in London in “BREAKING THE MOULD: NEW SIGNATURE FROM THE DRC” at 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning in 2021.
It should be noted that Arsene Mpiana works in both areas of photography: information and creation.
